Lounge Access
A complimentary or discounted entry privilege to airport lounges, offered as a benefit on select credit and debit cards.
What is Lounge Access?
Lounge access is a benefit offered on many Indian credit and debit cards that provides complimentary or discounted entry to airport lounges. Airport lounges offer comfortable seating, free food and beverages, Wi-Fi, showers, and a quiet environment away from crowded terminal areas.
How Card-Based Lounge Access Works
Most cards provide lounge access through two primary programmes:
- Visa Airport Companion (formerly DragonPass): Visa network cards
- Mastercard Airport Experiences: Mastercard network cards
- DreamFolks: Used by several Indian banks as the access platform
To use the benefit, you typically need to:
- Show your eligible card at the lounge reception
- Present a valid boarding pass
- The visit is recorded against your card’s quarterly/annual quota
Some banks now require activation through their app or a dedicated lounge access app before your visit.
Domestic vs. International Lounge Access
| Feature | Domestic | International |
|---|---|---|
| Available on | Most mid-range and premium cards | Premium and super-premium cards only |
| Visits per year | 2 – 32 | 2 – 16 |
| Typical value per visit | ₹1,200 – ₹1,800 | ₹2,500 – ₹5,000 |
| Guest access | Sometimes (at extra cost) | Rarely complimentary |
Lounge Access by Card Tier
Entry-Level Cards (2–4 visits/year)
- HDFC Millennia: 2 domestic visits per quarter
- IDFC First Select: 4 domestic visits per quarter
Mid-Range Cards (8–16 visits/year)
- HDFC Regalia: 12 domestic + 6 international per year
- SBI Elite: 8 domestic + 2 international per year
- Axis My Zone: 8 domestic visits per year
Premium Cards (Unlimited or 24+ visits/year)
- HDFC Infinia: Unlimited domestic and international

Calculating the Value of Lounge Access
If you travel frequently, lounge access can be extremely valuable:
Annual Value = Number of visits × Average value per visit
For example, HDFC Regalia’s 18 annual visits at an average value of ₹1,500 each = ₹27,000 in annual lounge value.
Common Restrictions
- Visit caps: Most cards limit visits per quarter or year
- Guest charges: Bringing a guest may cost ₹1,200–₹2,500 per visit
- Minimum gap: Some cards require 2–3 hours between lounge visits at the same airport
- Activation required: Some banks require pre-registration in their app
- Terminal restrictions: Lounges are only available in select terminals
